Songs She Sings
Live Every Day
Written by Mary Fay Jackson and Michael David Culpepper Springwell Music/BMI
(chorus)
Lord help me live every day as if
today were my last;
Let me dream about tommorrow;
Forget about the past,
Let me be a ray of light in the
darkest of the night,
Help me live every day, as if today
were my last.

Today is the first day, of the rest
of our lives.
All that really matters, is what we
do for Christ.
This old world is changing, time is
passing so fast.
So help us every day, as if
today were our last

Sometimes the storms of this life
They bring us to our knees.
And this old world that we live in
There seems to be no peace.
But, Americans and Christians,
we're walking hand in hand
United together, Oh Lord please
help us stand.

(Ending)
Let me be a ray of light in the
darkest of the night.
Let me live every day, as if today
were my last

Everything Will Be Just Right In Heaven
(author unknown)
You may not walk the
Road I want you to
I may not understand
Some things you do
We have our ups and downs
Our smiles and frowns
But everything will be just right
When we up there.

(chorus)
Everything will be just right
in Heaven
There'll be no storms of life
To blow me down
Everything will be just right
In Heaven
Everything will be just right
When we get up there

There'll be no cold and lonely
Nights up there

The sun will shine and smiles we
Then shall wear
Sweet music will ring softly
Through the air
And everything will be just right
When we get there

(chorus)

Everything will be just right
Everything will be just right
Everything will be just right when
we get up there

Master's Bouquet
Death is an angel sent down
From above, sent for the buds
Amd the flowers we love, but
Every bud & each blossom some
Day will bloom as a flower
In the master's bouquet.

(chorus)
Gathering flowers for the Master's
Bouquet, beautiful flowers, that will
Never decay, gathered by angels
And carried away, forever to bloom
In the Master's bouquet

(chorus)

Let us be faithful til life's
Work is done, blooming with love
Til the reaper shall come, then
We'll be gathered together for aye
Transplanted to bloom in the
Master's bouquet

Remembering Doug Oldham 1931-2010

Pictured shown is Doug and Laura Lee Oldham
His solo voice was rich and deep as was the manner of his welcome of friends to his home, his dinner table or a concert hall. Often he approached his concert audiences by starting down the aisle from the back of the auditorium, his deep voice and mellow tone engaging and inviting them to share an evening of serious thought and joyous celebration-not engendered by a stage performance, but by a shared experience of worship and praise...and the celebration of God's abundant blessing.

Doug Oldham, gospel music icon and long-time friend of Bill and Gloria Gaither, passed away during the early morning hours of July 21, 2010 at the age of 79, Doug's health had declined in recent years, and his most recent fall, several days before his death, resulted in a broken spine for which he was awaiting surgery when he passed away.

Bill fondly recalls some of many great memories of Doug:
"Gloria and I have no better friends than Doug and Laura Lee Oldham. Our history goes back so far, time cannot permit all the stories and wonderful memories we have of our friendship as well as our working relationship. Doug was one of the first professional singers to ever sing our songs and, in reality, he took our songs to the world. He was the first person ever to sing 'He Touched Me' the week after I wrote it. Shortly after he debuted the song publicly, he became the first artist ever to record it. We will always appreciate his belief in us and in our music.

During the 1960s the Bill Gaither Trio traveled with the Slaughters and Doug Oldham. We sang together for several years as a 'package deal'. Those were great years. I just can't say enough wonderful things about his life and his music. I am so grateful for the chance to have known him..

I'm also very proud of his family. His children, Rebekah (whom we call DeeDee), Karen and Paula, are great kids who reflect the kind of life Doug and Laura Lee have lived behind the scenes. We will surely miss him. Our hearts go out to Laura Lee and the family. We know what a huge gap his passing leaves in the Oldham household.

Widely known, not only as a great singer, but also a compelling communicator, Doug's resonant voice and vibrant spirit moved people at a very personal level. He possessed that rare balance between polished professionalism and authenticity...and the world couldn't help but respond.

He recorded at least 65 albums during his five-decade career, and was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2006. He was the recipient of two GMA Dove Awards, an Angel Award, a gold album, an Honorary Doctorate, and was named an Honorary Colonel of Alabama. In 2007, Liberty University named a recital hall after him and set up a scholarship fund in his honor at the Center for Worship.

Doug's music will live on through his many treasured recordings, and his life continues to shine through the legacy he leaves. But he will be missed."

Doug's home-going service was held on August 1 in Oldham's hometown. Gloria recounts some poignant moments from the service of celebration:

Finally free from this old body he has struggled with so long, "Thanks to Calvary, I don't live here anymore" took on a whole new meaning. Doug had planned the service and given the envelope with his wishes to Jonathan Falwell some time ago. Songs he wanted included were "He Touched Me," "Through It All," "Because He Lives" and "Something Beautiful." Doug had called Bill about a year ago for a track to the song, "Next Time We Meet" and he had recorded that song with a montage of pictures of Doug with his family, his grandkids and friends from over the years; this was shown toward the end of the service. An invitation was given, and Jonathan asked all who did not know the Lord to pray with him a prayer inviting Jesus into their lives. Doug would have liked that.

Doug and Laura Lee have been a big part of our lives. It is a chapter that will not close.

Doug Oldham's professional career was marked by songs which told, in simple language, the very personal stories of his own life-feast, failure, famine, recovery, and limitless redemption. A personal openness and gracious manner made his ministry doubly effective. He was someone folks felt they knew, could relate to, wanted to embrace or just plain hug! His life is a testimony to the fact that all of us long for the purpose and meaning that can be found only through relationship with Jesus Christ-and that one very vital connection to that coveted kind of victorious living can come to us in the context of a song.

The McKameys

If there is one word that describes The McKameys, it would be sincere. Each member of this Southern Gospel singing group is sincere in their love for the Lord, sincere in their love for the music they sing, and sincere in their need to spread the Word to others through their music.

Organized as a trio of sisters -- Dora, Peg and Carol McKamey -- in 1954, the group is in its fifth decade of spreading love and blessings through the music they sing. Even though there have been several changes in the group's makeup, the wonderful harmonies, great songs and sheer joy of singing has never gone away. Whether they are performing "I've Made Up My Mind", "Roll That Burden On Me," "I Will Trust You Lord," "Right On Time," "Arise," or earlier hits like "Who Put The Tears" or "God On The Mountain," there is a light that shines through onstage and an energy that carries them through the night when they
perform.

Dora actually started the group, which is based in Clinton, Tennessee. Since their father was a minister, the girls had grown up singing in church. One day Dora announced to her astonished sisters that they were going to sing with her in church the next Sunday as a trio! "She gathered us up in her kitchen, started singing and we each found our parts," Peg explained. "We just thought we were gonna sing that one time, in her home church, but different people heard us and invited us to sing at their church or at revivals. Then out of town evangelists heard us at the revivals and invited us to come to their church and we started traveling to Florida and Indiana and Ohio, and that's how it all started."

In 1957 Ruben Bean started playing guitar for the trio, and he and Peg married two years later. As their girls, Connie and Sheryl, were growing up they traveled with their mom, dad and aunts. Dora and Carol retired from the trio in 1971 so it was a natural move for Connie and Sheryl to fill their aunt's shoes. "The girls had been singing special duets at our concerts so one day after Dora and Carol told us they were retiring, I heard the girls singing and I went in and added my part and I thought 'Wow.' So when Ruben came home we sang for him, started working on the music, and by the end of the year we were taking bookings. The group never stopped. We sold albums from the old group at first and we made our first album, with the new members, in 1972."

In 1983 there was another change when Sheryl left to fulfill her obligations as a minister's wife. Peg's sister, Carol, returned to the group. In 1987 Roger Fortner was hired to play the guitar for the group. In 1999 Connie and Roger's son, Eli came on stage with the group, quoting scripture and singing from time to time, and then in 2006 Eli joined the group on stage playing rhythm guitar. The group also uses digital tracks to enhance the value of their performance.

The McKameys play about 150 days a year, traveling all over North America from Southern California on up to British Columbia and over to the East Coast, north to New Brunswick and south to Florida. They have had 21 number one singles and in 1999 were honored by their record label, Horizon, for having the most number one hits in the history of Southern Gospel Music. The group has been awarded several different Singing News Fan Awards through the years with Peg being named Favorite Female Vocalist 7 times. However, their fans say they believe the singers really are sincere about the message they present. "It's the joy of the Lord and the strong message in the songs they hear," Peg says. "We try to have fresh songs and new encounters with the Lord so we can pass them along to those in need of it."

In March of 2009 another change in personnel came to the group. Peg's sister, Carol Woodard, retired from the road after 26 years of traveling and singing. Carol's husband retired and Carol wanted to spend time with him and their grandchildren. Sheryl Farris, Peg and Ruben's youngest daughter, returned to the group to fill Carol's position.

Peg is one of the first to admit that Southern Gospel Music has grown. "It's bigger now than it ever has been. There are more people attending the concerts and the concerts are in auditoriums where they were at first only in churches. There are also stronger songs, and the music that enhances those songs has gotten better. There has been a lot of quality added to Gospel Music."

Since 1954 the quality of The McKameys has always been there. The harmonies, the songs and the love of the message and for the people it reaches has never wavered. Fans can feel it emanate from the stage as the group breaks into song, because nothing can take the place of sincerity when it comes to delivering the Gospel to the people.
